This year’s annual dealer meeting for Manitou, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, featured the unveiling of several new Manitou, Gehl, and Mustang by Manitou machines. With nearly 300 North American dealers in attendance, the meeting showed off new products for construction, agriculture, industry, and rental markets. All positioned for the North American market, products seen ranged from skid and track loaders to telehandlers and mobile elevated work platforms.

The National Construction Week series of events has been officially opened today at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre by Prof. Paul Maringa, Principal Secretary State Department of Public Works Designed to promote and uplift the construction industry in Kenya. The week brings together two major events, the International Construction Research Conference and Exhibition (ICoRCE) and The Big 5 Construct East Africa.

The Big 5 Solar event is returning this year after a successful launch edition in 2017. National Crane has taken a highly demanded concept to production in just eight months with their newest tractor-mounted version of their popular NBT30H-2 with the NBT30H-2 TM. Making use of their Voice of the Customer feedback program, an integral part of The Manitowoc Way, National Crane’s engineering team created this 30 USt machine with the help of a cross-functional team of experts from Manitowoc’s Lift Solutions team and National Crane’s Truck Modification Center. This new crane features 360° stability and a 69 ft boom, making it ideal for oil field applications and taxi crane work.

ARDCO has officially introduced new dump beds for Articulating Multi-Purpose Trucks (AMTs). These AMT Dump Beds offer payloads of 10-20 tons, volume upgrades for lighter materials, and tire options for varying extreme conditions where other articulated dump trucks simply cannot perform. The beds can even be added or removed from the modular AMT platform when needing to change the back-end attachment for different jobsite tasks, adding versatility to an already powerful machine.

Komatsu Equipment Company, a flagship dealership for Komatsu America Corp. (KAC), announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art customer support and service center in Elko, Nevada. The global heavy equipment manufacturer will be building their new 189,000 ft2 (57,600 m2) state-of-the-art Service Center on roughly 30 acres. They plan to enhance customer support, boost the local economy, and add full-time jobs in the process.

Cat is updating their look for machines, engines, generator sets, and work tools with a new “Cat Modern Hex” trade dress. Replacing the familiar “Power Edge” trade dress, (where the Cat trademark is on a black background accented with a diagonal red bar,) the new, fresh graphic design combines the traditional Cat trademark with a bold, three-dimensional red hexagon featuring a grille pattern on the inside. The use of red is a throwback to the graphics of the company’s very first crawler tractors, introduced back in 1925.

John Deere has introduced their exclusive on-board grade indication option, which is ideal for job sites involving leveling and slope work. The on-board grade indication will be available as a factory or field kit option on 330G and 332G large-frame skid steers and 331G and 333G large-frame compact track loaders. 

Caterpillar will be presenting 30 machines, in addition to work tools, engines, and product support capabilities, at the upcoming bauma CHINA 2018 trade fair. Even more excitingly, the introduction of over a dozen Cat Next Generation hydraulic excavators will also be debuted for the first time. The show will also feature Cat general and building construction, paving, and SEM-branded equipment.

Generac Mobile has officially launched their first diffuse LED light towers, which provide minimal glare for nighttime work. Many conventional light fixtures emit harsh light, which can be distracting to other workers nearby and even drivers while performing road maintenance. Generac’s new diffuse LED’s provide even lighting for many different applications, eliminating this issue.

Cat’s new 740 GC is their most recent addition to expand their articulated dump truck (ADT) line. This re-introduction of a 40-ton size class ADT incorporates the already loved features and proven performance of previous models. Improvements include new controls, advanced traction-control system, hoist-assist system, transmission-protection features, stability-assist system, a fuel-saving ECO mode, and more.

Hiab has excitedly announced the winner of the World Crane Championship (WCC) held on September 22nd and 23rd in connection with the IAA exhibition in Hannover, Germany. Andreas Öhman from Sweden won the championship final with a time of 2:32:89. Jani Väisänen from Finland came in second place with a time of 2:38:95, and Tim Hansen from Denmark came in third place with a time of 2:33:18 after winning the bronze final.
