Komatsu America Corp. announced that their FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) has made the cut for operating on the mobile broadband technology, private long-term evolution (LTE). This is the first time that an AHS has qualified to run on private LTE in commercial operations in the mining industry. Not only does this allow for Komatsu to continue to adhere to their own distinguished safety standards, but it also leads the way for ultra-high system availability and reliability.

Caterpillar’s newest multi-processor models are here, delivering heavy-duty results with their 19 percent greater cutting/crushing forces and their 50 percent faster cycle times than previous models. The MP332, MP345, and MP365 feature multiple interchangeable jaws, each with their own storage stand, that can perform a variety of high-production, specialized tasks for demolition purposes. Additionally, their innovative locking system allows a single operator to change jaws with only standard hand tools within 15 minutes or less.

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is pushing the bounds of autonomy with their first SAE level 2 automated truck in series production. Featuring the latest enhancements to their Freightliner Cascadia, the level 2 of automation means that the truck can steer itself and control acceleration and deceleration. This ability to take both lateral and longitudinal control, as well as the many improvements made to the efficiency of the vehicle, made this industry-leading performer a perfect addition to the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past January.

Kenworth Truck Company and Toyota Motor North America have recently teamed up in order to develop ten new zero-emission Kenworth T680 trucks, all to be powered by Toyota hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrains. This collaboration was made possible by the $41million grant preliminarily awarded to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The large sum of grant money comes from an even larger $82 million program that hopes to put fuel cell electric tractors, hydrogen fueling infrastructure, and zero emissions cargo handling equipment into operation in Los Angeles' basin and ports by 2020.

John Deere revealed their three newest L-Series utility wheel loaders, all with more power and suited for the versatility required of job sites and farms. The 524L, 544L and 624L were all designed with the operator in mind, given a much more comfortable cab with increased visibility, additional storage room, heaters, and more. Other new features, including electrohydraulic (EH) loader controls, redesigned near-parallel linkage, and enhanced performance buckets also aid in making these nimble machines more intuitive for operators of all skill levels.

John Deere has expanded their Worksite Pro attachments collection yet again with the addition of their five new pickup and three new angle brooms. The BP72C, BP84C, BR60C, BR72C, and BR84C pickup brooms and the BA72C, BA84C, and BA96C angle brooms were designed for simple and easy cleanup in construction applications, as well as snow and turf. These brooms are compatible with John Deere compact track loaders and skid steers, as well as competitive models.

Modeled after previous, reliable Cat core engines with over 109 off-highway field hours of experience, this C13B engine delivers 15-liter power at 32 percent less system weight, all without sacrificing overall performance.

Cat’s next generation of motor grader, the Cat 120, is designed with with the customer in mind first and foremost, featuring a more comfortable cab with enhanced visibility and display screens, as well as many customizable options that tailor the machine to the operator’s application specific preferences. Some of these options include the ability to choose between steering wheel/lever or joystick controls, tandem or all-wheel drive, and a range of scalable grade control technologies. Additionally, with the help of the Cat C7.1 engine, the new motor grader needs 15% less fuel when used in combination with ECO mode.

Caterpillar’s brand new Cat GRADE with 3D system is the tech of the future, featuring an automatic grade control system which uses GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) to position the machine’s blade with precision without the help of the operator from the beginning to the finished grade. Made for D3K2, D4K2 and D5K2 track-type tractors, this system also comes equipped with the Cat AccuGrade Ready Option, which gives the operator the ability to use universal-total-station and laser references for automated control. This all encompassing system reduces staking costs, rework expenses, fuel, and machine hours while allowing operators of all skill levels to achieve specified grades quicker and more accurately.
