Terex Corporation recently announced their decision to sell Demag Mobile Cranes to Tadano Ltd. for its approximate $215 million enterprise value. Demag Mobile Cranes manufactures and sells large crawler cranes and all terrain cranes and will continue to do so under its new global crane parent company. The sale is set to close mid-2019, provided government regulatory approvals, and the deal struck will provide Tadano with several Demag sales and service locations, as well as the manufacturing facilities in Zweibrucken, Germany.

As of late February, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) confirmed plans to invest an overall $4.5 billion in five of its existing Michigan plants. FCA will also work with the state of Michigan, as well as the city of Detroit, to build a new assembly plant within its city limits; an investment that will create an estimated 6,500 new jobs. The move will increase capacity for the growing demand of Jeep and Ram brands, including more electrified models and the production of two new Jeep-branded white space products.

Despite the appearance of rain, sleet, and snow, this year’s World of Asphalt Show & Conference and AGG1 Academy & Expo hit record attendance numbers with 10,063 people registered - a 28 percent increase over last year’s attendance in Houston. With attendees from all 50 states making appearances, as well as all 10 Canadian provinces, the state of Indiana alone saw over 1500 people coming to the expo. International attendance increased 10 percent as well, with delegations as far as Nigeria and Russia making their way to the trade show that was held in Indianapolis on February 12-14th.

On this day in 1969, Hans Liebherr founded Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH, a divisional controlling company for mobile cranes. The Toro Company recently announced that they will be acquiring privately-held The Charles Machine Works, Inc. for $700 million in cash, subject to specific adjustments set forth under the definitive agreement. The Charles Machine Works, Inc. corporation is an Oklahoma parent company of many leading brands in the underground construction market, including Ditch Witch. While the transaction is still subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, the deal should be closed before the end of Toro’s third fiscal quarter of 2019.

This data sharing will ultimately optimize productivity and in-field efficiency.

Cat has recently made a 2019 update to their M Series Medium Wheel Loaders, including the 950M through the 982M. This product update package includes technology that will feature emissions control strategies to meet EU Stage V standards (EU only), expanded productivity measurement tools, remote software update capabilities, and refinements in ground engaging tool and coupler systems, as well as contributing to lower operating costs via extended service intervals. Cat regularly provides periodic updates in order to provide new and improved features for their customers on a quicker, more frequent scale than would be possible for New Product Introduction (NPI) cycles. The update will also enhance the operator experience with new seats and suspensions.
