Vermeer’s new D23x30DR S3 Navigator horizontal directional drill (HDD) efficiently maneuvers through rock in any environment, be in a congested city, a busy neighborhood, or a tight jobsite, with the assistance of dual rod technology. The D23x30DR S3 is the lightest rock drill on the market, featuring a class-leading narrow footprint and weighing only 16,500 pounds. John Deere is upgrading their 470G LC Excavators with new grade guidance technology, developed in cooperation with Topcon Positioning Group. The concept was originally designed for use with 210G LC and 350G LC Excavators, providing operators with bucket location in relation to a 2D reference or 3D design surface. This power and precision then arms those operators with the detail necessary for precision excavation projects like digging trenches for pipe laying, shaping ditches or slopes, and digging structure foundations.

Hiab, part of Cargotec, debuted a new crane specifically designed for use with underground refuse containers at the ReinigingsDemoDagen (RDD) trade show in Utrecht, the Netherlands earlier this June. The HIAB S-HiPro 230W has been engineered for operator ease of use in order to safely and efficiently perform job duties in chaotic urban environments. With this crane, even new operators can learn how to quickly get the job done in increasingly crowded city centers without incurring damages or injuries.

Vermeer recently teamed up with the US Composting Council (USCC) to give away a free one-year membership to organic waste recycling companies who purchase a new Vermeer horizontal grinder, tub grinder, trommel screen or compost turner. The global self-driving truck company, TuSimple, announced that they have awarded their two-week pilot program to the United States Postal Service. During this time, USPS will haul their trailers on five round trips over 1,000 miles between their Phoenix, Arizona and Dallas, Texas distribution centers. To ensure public safety, an engineer and driver will be on board each truck for the entirety of the pilot program in order to monitor vehicle performance.

John Deere recently added three new backhoe attachments, the BH9B, BH10B and BH11B, to their ever expanding lineup. The new models are ideal for use on John Deere G-Series skid steers and compact track loaders, similar to other attachments. The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) is hosting WASTECON 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona, the fifth-largest city in the United States this October 21-24th. Komatsu America has introduced their new PC1250SP-11 and PC1250LC-11 Tier 4 final emissions certified hydraulic excavators. The heavy equipment manufacturer debuted these EPA Tier 4 Final (T4F) certified models - perfect for sewer, water, mass excavation, mining, and quarry applications - with simplicity in mind. Their SAA6D170E-7 engines feature two Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filters (KDPF) that do not require a Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). The new PC1250SP-11 and PC1250LC-11 feature increased power, improved production, and a new single “Power +” operating mode that does not compromise fuel consumption.

This year’s African Construction Expo, taking place June 11-13th, represents a beacon of hope for the South African construction industry.
