The e-commerce boom in Russia with its 76 million internet users, drives the demand for more logistics hubs, warehouses and distribution centers. All these facilities have to be equipped with intralogistics devices and systems. Russia’s Transport Strategy 2030 specifies a growing need for more logistics hubs and warehousing space around the country. And Russia is on the way to increase the availability of world-class logistic centers.
Millions of Euros have been invested in the construction of new facilities from 2016 until today and this is going to be continued. In 2017-18 French retailer Auchan invests €94 Mio in a new 140,000 m² distribution center, Swedish IKEA is looking to set-up a dedicated e-commerce facility of some 30,000 m² with possibility to expand to 70,000 m² in 2018-19, Germany’s Karl Schmidt Spedition GmbH & Co has invested $333 Mio in Russia, including the purchasing of 35,600 m² of A-class warehousing. Together with the growth in the number of warehouses being built throughout Russia, a higher demand of related technologies is coming up. As an example picking and packaging, cargo tracking, and other sector-specific equipment, machinery and technology is required.
