How to Choose the Right Light Tower

In general, a construction site should have at least 10 footcandles of light (and 1-5 footcandles in a parking lot). Basic light towers with 1,000-watt metal-halide lights and a 30-ft mast are enough to achieve this.

• Smaller Towers – Light towers with a vertical mast are easy to transport and can illuminate an area just as well as larger models.
• Larger Towers – If you are working under extreme conditions, however, you’ll need a tower that is more durable and rugged.

Light Tower Bulbs

Choosing between metal-halide bulbs and LED lamps is extremely important for your budget. LED light towers are more expensive, but they are also more durable and efficient, meaning they require less fuel to run. If you are working on a long-term project, you might be able to save a lot of money on downtime and replacements by going with LED lamps. For a smaller project, however, you can use metal-halide bulbs without worry.

Light Tower Fuel Tanks

Going with larger tanks means that you are spending more up front, but you’ll be able to work at a site for longer before having to stop and refuel. Gasoline tanks might be cheaper to run for short projects, but long-term projects will save more in fuel efficiency by choosing diesel.
