Log Loaders
As one of the most important pieces of logging equipment in the forestry industry, a log loader can place heavy logs onto vehicles for transportation and also form large wood piles. My Little Salesman lists log loaders for sale of all sizes, both wheeled and tracked, that can meet all of your lumber transportation needs.
Different Types of Log Loaders for Sale
There are two main types of log loaders for sale:
- Self-propelled Loaders – These log loaders sit atop rubber wheels or tracks, and can be further divided into four different subtypes:
- Crane Loaders – These mobile cranes have a rotatable deck and a special type of boom, either gooseneck or hinge-type. Gooseneck booms have a lower lifting capacity than hinge-type booms because they cannot pull the log as close to the deck.
- Forklift Loaders – These log loaders for sale slip under a log and then raise upwards so that the log slides back to the loader. Clamps keep the load in place until it is time to dump, at which point the clamp releases and the loader tips forward.
- Heel Boom Loader – Similar to a crane loader, but with a grapple arm that can often clamp down on a log in two places while bringing it towards the loader. This design is much more stable than the cable-based system of most crane loaders.
- Butt-N-Top Loader – These log loaders have a special grapple that can grab onto logs and rotate them mid-swing. This allows the logs to be alternatively stacked from "butt" (base) to "top" for extra loading stability.
- Knuckleboom Loaders – These common log loaders for sale usually need to be mounted on a trailer and towed. They have two boom arms and a 190-degree range of arching movement. If you are looking for knuckleboom logging equipment for sale, please see our knuckleboom loaders page.
