When do You Need a Skid Steer?
The real question is when don’t you need a skid steer! With a front bucket for digging and dual lifting arms that can be swapped out for a variety of attachments, the skid steer has become a staple for construction, landscaping and farming jobs. You can use skid steers to grade roads, remove debris, spread materials, mulch, manure and seeds, demolish small structures, and a whole lot more.
Different Types of Skid Steers
Skid steers are able to clear debris and level work sites with proficient ease. Only when a skid steer lifts a load at least 3 feet off the ground is there any noticeable difference between the two types:
- Radial Lift Skid Steer – These skid steers swing out in an arc when lifting, making them good for:
- Digging
- Foundation work
- Grading
- Backfilling
- Vertical Lift Skid Steer – These skid steers lift loads straight up and down with no arc, making them good for:
- Handling materials
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Stockpiling
In general, radial lift skid steers are almost always less expensive than vertical lift skid steers.
