Harry Hottel along with his father started the company together in 1970, operating as an auto dismantler in the auto wrecking industry. At that time, the focus was on purchasing cars and trucks and selling the useable parts.
When the market changed and the demand for used vehicles and car parts began to diminish, we soon began to see those same automobiles were now being shredded, crushed, or baled, parts separated into their respective commodities, and the focus of the future was "recycling" and our business was slowly evolving into the scrap metal industry.
With that said, along came the need for various types of equipment necessary to run the scrapyard, and with Harry's first-hand knowledge of the different types of equipment used in the handling of scrap metals, demolition and the recycling arenas, an avenue to branch off into the buying and selling of "used heavy equipment" transpired. That is exactly what Dick's Auto Wreckers did, we expanded our location and began purchasing & selling used machinery and equipment as a "whole" or selling "parts only" and doing some repairs for customers.
Some examples of the various types of equipment would be water trucks, trailers, specialty service trucks, large construction equipment, semi- trucks, forklifts, shears, excavators, loaders, diesel motors and parts for the numerous machines we sell and the markets they support.
We have equipment suitable for many industries out there; a few examples would be the recycling and scrap metal companies, construction, trucking and transportation and demolition companies.
