Service/Utility/Mechanic Trucks for Maintenance, Repairs and Landscaping
A service truck, also referred to as a mechanic truck, contractor truck, or utility truck, can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including preventative maintenance on utilities, minor mechanical repairs to vehicles and equipment, welding, and landscaping in high-clearance areas that require a bucket to reach. Most importantly, dispatching a service and utility truck keeps business owners from having to take expensive equipment back to the shop for repairs, saving them time and money. Service trucks come in many shapes and forms and may have a crane, air compressor, welder, generator, open or enclosed service body.
General contractors and other skilled tradesmen can benefit greatly by choosing the right service truck for sale, which allows them to easily take all of their tools wherever the work day takes them. At My Little Salesman, you’ll find a plethora of listings for reliable new and used service trucks that are built for lifting, welding, frequent stops or long trips, ready to provide on-the-fly tune-ups and repairs where you need them the most.
Selecting the Right Service Truck for Sale
Picking the right utility truck largely depends on what it will be servicing. There are several options you'll want to consider.
First, deciding whether you need a crane and the right type of crane is one of the most important options when browsing new or used utility trucks:
- No crane - A service truck without a crane is the cheapest option.
- Telescopic crane - For lifting between 2,000 and 14,000 pounds. These cranes fold inwards for easier transportation.
- Hydraulic crane - Lifting anything more than 6,000 pounds will require hydraulics. Telescopic cranes can also be hydraulic as well.
- Articulated crane - These special cranes with a “knuckle” are meant for lifting more than 14,000 pounds.
Next decide whether you need an air compressor and the type:
- Reciprocating piston compressors - Use these compressors with pneumatic attachments, tire inflation, and other tasks with compressed air. They are not meant for long-term usage.
- Rotary screw compressors - These compressors are used for the same tasks, but they are meant for long-term usage.
Next decide on the type of roof, if needed, for the service body:
- Open
- Enclosed low sliding roof
- Enclosed high roof with rear swing doors
Other considerations:
- Handles/Locking Rods - Ensure these are quality-made and not corroded. You will most likely carry valuable tools in your truck so ensure they are well-secured.
- Generator
- Welder
Service trucks / utility trucks can be made of:
- Steel - Utility trucks made of steel are less expensive, but they weigh more and therefore consume more fuel. These contractor trucks also tend to break down faster.
- Aluminum - Utility trucks made of aluminum cost more, but last longer and weigh less.
