Power and Efficiency Combined: Redesigned EW100 Excavator Sets New Standards

Digging just got more efficient, folks. Construction equipment manufacturer Wacker Neuson has redesigned its largest wheeled excavator, the EW100, to provide more power and hydraulic flow for various attachments.

The new version of their 10-ton excavator combines the compact dimensions of a smaller excavator with the output of a larger 14-ton excavator.

Jay Quatro, the commercial product manager at Wacker Neuson, explains that the machine is well-suited for municipal customers engaged in digging, demolition, and roadside maintenance in urban areas.

MiC 4.0 Integration: EW100 at the Forefront of Technological Advancements

The redesigned EW100 excavator is the result of collaboration with customers, associations, attachment manufacturers, and industry companies to establish new Construction Site 4.0 standards. Quatro refers to Construction Site 4.0 or MiC 4.0 as a new standard emerging in the construction market—facilitating universal communication and compatibility between attachment and equipment manufacturers. This standard, which debuted at Bauma 2022, aims to establish "attachments as an IoT device" and is expected to become an industry-wide ISO standard.

Wacker Neuson is actively involved in the development of MiC 4.0 standards as a member of the MiC board. The company states that the EW100 will be one of the first machines ready for MiC 4.0, enabling easy integration with attachments from different manufacturers without the need for additional packages or control systems.

Quatro highlights the convenience of the system, mentioning that tiltrotators from Rototilt, Steelwrist, or Engcon can be plugged into the machine, and the controls will adjust automatically.

Fuel-Efficient Performance: Choose Your Engine Option

The EW100 offers customers a choice between two fuel-efficient Perkins diesel engine options. The standard engine delivers 74 horsepower and reaches speeds of up to 18.6 mph, while the high-performance model provides 136 horsepower and reaches speeds of up to 24 mph.

The high-performance model also offers multiple auxiliary circuits, including high flow, allowing operators to utilize high-performance attachments such as mulchers, mowers, and brush cutters.

Precise Control, Maximum Efficiency: The Load-Sensing Hydraulic System

The excavator's load-sensing hydraulic system regulates the flow rate according to demand, ensuring consistent and precise control regardless of the load. The system adjusts to the load size, maintaining the same joystick movements and providing a smooth operating experience. The shorter hose paths in the hydraulic system result in reduced power loss and increased hose service life.

Enhanced Maneuverability: the "Triple" Articulated Boom

The EW100 features an articulated or "triple" boom, enhancing maneuverability by allowing the bucket to be pulled closer to the travel gear or the dozer blade. With a maximum digging depth of 195.6 inches and a maximum dumping height of 246.5 inches, the machine offers improved stability and digging specifications due to its three-point bucket linkage system.

Operator Comfort Optimized: Cab Features and Design

Wacker Neuson has prioritized operator comfort and convenience in the design of the EW100. The cab provides nearly 360-degree visibility, ample legroom and headroom, and a wide entry. It features a two-part front windshield designed for ventilation and easier communication between operators and others on the job site.

The cab is equipped with an automatic climate control system, a 10-inch touchscreen display for easy programming and customization, a rearview camera, and an Active Working Signal (AWS) that alerts others when the machine is moving.

Adaptability on Any Job Site: Steering Modes and Control Options

The EW100 offers three steering modes (front-wheel, four-wheel, and crab steering) to adapt to different job site conditions. Operators can choose between steering with a steering wheel or using ergonomic joysticks. The closed driving circuit simplifies the operation with a single drive pedal for both road travel and working, allowing for variable speeds from 0 to 18.6 mph without the need for gear changes.
